The Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), Mr. Moussa Faki Mahamat, said, during his speech at the opening of the Executive Council, the Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, had made a historic decision to organize the African Summit in Nouakchott, adding that Mauritania is strongly present for the improvement and promotion of the AU mechanism of action, praising such a role and expressing the gratitude of the continent to him.

He also commended the role played by the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, the founding member of the African Union, under the leadership of former President Mokhtar Ould Daddah.

The AUC chairman also thanked the Mauritanian Government and people for the good preparation of the Summit, hospitality and quality of work conditions, praising the efforts that “reflect Mauritania’s commitment towards the continent and its concerns”.
