The President of the Republic, Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, said during his speech at the opening of the 31st African Summit that Mauritania will spare no effort to promote and enhance African joint action.
His Excellency added that Mauritania has been playing interactive roles throughout history in its African region, explaining that security, economic and social challenges facing the African continent today require everyone to do more to overcome them.
President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz said that the 31st African Summit is especially important because it is held under the slogan of fighting corruption and bribery, recalling Mauritania’s efforts which have enabled to reduce the effects of the specter of destructive corruption on economic development.
The President said that the achievement of development and stability in Africa depends on the imposition of security and tranquility. His Excellency reviewed the great results achieved by Mauritania in fighting terrorism and extremist groups, saying that Mauritania’s approach in combating terrorism has enabled the country to secure its borders and expel terrorist groups outside the country.
On the role played by the G-5 Sahel, the President of the Republic said that this group has become a strong player in the security and development issues in the Sahel and Sahara region, which was achieved thanks to the efforts of the brothers in the group and the support of the international community.
